Match Day 3 of the 300 level league featured multiple high scoring games from across colleges.
Saturday saw Mechanical Engineering go up against Electrical Engineering. It was a highly anticipated rematch of an earlier friendly this semester which saw Mechanical engineering as the victors. The Electrical Engineers would come with the intention of winning so as to further their title aspirations.
The evening fixture got off to a fiery start with mechanical going on the attack. The first breakthrough came after Mechanical’s third free kick, taken by Gift. A clearance from the goalkeeper was sent back into the danger area by a bicycle kick which was met with a shot by Sinclair. A defensive error saw the ball creep into the post to give Mechanical Engineering the lead.
The second half started similarly, with mechanical once again putting on pressure. Once again a free kick from Gift saw the ball enter the danger area and eventually find Sinclair who slots it in once more.
The game ends 2-0 with Mechanical once more emerging as the victors.
Sunday saw the battle of the alliterations. Civil Engineering went head to head with Computer Engineering, as well as Accounting vs Architecture. Both matches ended with 4-0 scorelines, Civil and Accounting emerging victorious.
The Civil vs Comp match was a replay of the chancellor’s cup game the previous day that saw Computer Engineering pull through for the win. It was essentially a grudge match to see if Comp could mirror their success in the cup, or if Civil would be able to avenge their upperclassmen.
The first half of the Civil vs Comp match saw no goals. The second half of the game saw three headed goals from corners, one from Brian and a brace from George.
In between these was an outside shot from Ojo Paul, with an assist from Barnabas.
The four goals were more than enough to see Civil through.
The standings are thus;
Group 3:
- Accounting
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Architecture
